    BRNO (Czechia) - The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2025 will take place in Brno, Czechia and there is going to be a lot to love about the flagship tournament.

    Tipping off on July 12 and running until July 20, it promises to be another spectacular event and we've broken down everything you need to know ahead of the curtain being raised.

    What is the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup?

    The competition is FIBA's premier global youth tournament

    Taking place every two years (alternating with the U17 Women's World Cup) the famous competition is the premier FIBA global youth event, where the best young players on the planet assemble to showcase their skills.

    The competition gives an important platform to the senior stars of the future and this 16th edition in Brno will celebrate the competition's 40th birthday, having been inaugurated in 1985.

    Who won it last time?

    At the last edition in 2023, USA won their landmark 10th title in thrilling circumstances

    In one of the all-time classic Final showdowns, USA squeezed out host nation Spain 69-66 to inflcit disappointment on the vast majority of an astonishing and record-breaking crowd of 7,000 in Madrid.

    Despite that loss, the locals did at least enjoy seeing Iyana Martin crowned TISSOT MVP.

    Meanwhile it was USA's landmark 10th title success and 2023 was also remembered for the spectacular debut of an innovative ASB Glassfloor.

    Who is playing at this edition and how did they qualify?

    16 teams have qualified for the competition

    With Czechia qualified as hosts, the other teams booked their tickets to the 2025 edition via their respectie Continental championships. USA, Canada, Argentina and Brazil came through the FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup 2024. Mali and Nigeria secured their spots from the FIBA U18 Women's AfroBasket 2024.

    Australia, China, Japan and Korea got their tickets through the FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup 2024. Meanwhile France, Spain, Israel, Portugal and Hungary snapped up their spots via the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket 2024.

    What is the format of this year's edition in Brno?

    The 16 teams in the competition were drawn into four groups of four teams. All teams will play each of the other nations in their group in round robin style in the Group Phase over the first three days of action.

    Group A: Hungary, Israel, Korea, USA

    Group Phase

    The sixteen (16) participating teams are divided into four (4) groups (A, B, C, and D) of four (4) teams each. Each team will play against all other teams in its own group (a total of 3 games for each team).

    Final Phase

    All teams qualify for the Round of 16, where they will cross between Groups A and B and C and D (A1 v B4, A2 v B3, etc.). The winners of the Round of 16 games advance to the Quarter-Finals, while the losers move on to the Classification Games for Places 9-16.
