MUNICH (Germany) – The community of European Mini Basketball is in mourning since Monday morning, following the sad news of the death of Maurizio Cremonini, one of its founding architects.

Largely credited for building the Mini Basketball structures of the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) during the last thirty years, Cremonini was a pioneer of children’s education through sport on pan-European level, and a former member of FIBA Europe's Youth Commission.

His career as a whole in Mini Basketball spanned five decades, since he was first appointed as national instructor in Italy in 1981, and his long experience was invaluable to FIBA’s Basketball for Good Projects and the European Mini Basketball movement.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of Maurizio Cremonini’s passing, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, his colleagues at FIP and his partners in the European Mini Basketball community,” said FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak.

“He leaves behind an enormous legacy for Mini Basketball instructors and coaches, which will continue to be passed down for the benefit of children and youth basketball all over Europe for many years to come.”

One of Cremonini's many lasting contributions was devising EasyBasket for FIP, an innovative program that has been replicated successfully in many other countries beyond Italy.

Cremonini was also the star instructor at every FIBA European Mini Basketball Convention, with his latest participation at the massive annual event taking place last June.

He delivered his trademark captivating lectures and coaching sessions for the benefit of more than 500 participants and delegates at the massive 2026 Convention & Coaching Course in Skopje.
