DR Congo mourns passing of coach Tshibangu

    Until his death, Mr Tshibangu was the head coach of local club Makomeno Basketball Club while serving as the FEBACO technical director. 

    KINSHASA (DR Congo) - Renowned Congolese basketball coach Simplice Tshibangu passed away on Thursday, September 5, in Kinshasa, Basketball Federation of Democratic Republic of Congo (FEBACO) announced. 

    Coach Tshibangu, who held several coaching positions at national team and club level, had been admitted to Cinquantenaire Hospital in Kinshasa. He was 64.

    Until his death, Coach Tshibangu was the head coach of local club Makomeno Basketball Club while serving as the FEBACO technical director.

    In a statement, FEBACO informed the following: "The Congolese Basketball Federation, "FEBACO" in acronym, has the deep sorrow to inform the sports community that, surprised by a malaise during the CHAUX SPORTS and Makomeno match counting for the Semi-Final of the 41st edition of the Congolese basketball Cup, Mr. Simplice Tshibangu Bukasa, National Technical Director of FEBACO and Coach of Makomeno who had been taken care of by the FEBACO Medical Commission, passed away at the Cinquantenaire Hospital where he had been taken for appropriate care. FEBACO presents its most saddened condolences to his biological family as well as to the entire basketball family."
