MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA has awarded the hosting rights of the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup to China for the first time.
Receiving the full backing from the Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Sport, the Chinese Basketball Association candidature will see the event taking place in Chengdu from July 17 to 25, 2027, which has previous experience of presenting major international sporting events.
With a population of 20 million, Chengdu is also renowned for being the 'Panda capital' of the world, and this will provide a potentially unique opportunity for participants and fans attending the event. The city has previously excelled when hosting the likes of the 2025 World Games, the inaugural FIBA Women’s Basketball League Asia in 2024 and FISU Summer World University Games in 2023.
The FIBA Executive Committee recognized the outstanding track record of the Chinese Basketball Association in delivering FIBA events, most recently the FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2025. They are also set to host one of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments in March 2026.
China will host the 17th edition of the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup, showcasing some of the most exciting rising stars in the global game who will demonstrate their skills and confirm their status as senior stars of the future.

They continue to harness their hosting experience and passion for basketball to deliver high quality FIBA events.
"With the popularity of the women's game continuing to rise, this next edition of the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in China is destined to attract even higher levels of engagement and interest, helping us continue the growth of the sport globally.
"Most exciting of all, we will get to see the best rising stars in the game taking to the court. During the past editions alone, we have had the pleasure of watching high-profile players lighting up this flagship tournament, including for example the entire lineup of the All-Tournament First Team at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 - A'ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Han Xu, Steph Talbot and Bridget Carleton."
At the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2025 in Brno, Czechia it was a dominant USA who claimed their fourth consecutive title and 11th crown in total.
Meanwhile, before the 2027 edition gets underway in Chengdu, all eyes will be on the showpiece FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2026, which will also be hosted in Brno next year.
