Egypt's capital city will host the 2025 FIBA Youth Camps for boys and girls in Africa.

ABIDJAN (Côte d’Ivoire) – Following the resounding success of the last three editions in 2022, 2023 and 2024, which took place across a number of African cities, the FIBA Regional Youth Camps are back. This time, they are heading north to Cairo.

The Egyptian capital will play host to the next generation of African basketball talent, continuing FIBA’s commitment to nurturing young players through high-level training and a well-rounded education.

From October 12 to 22, 2025, the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall will be the epicentre of African youth basketball.

Bamako hosted the 2023 FIBA Africa Regional Youth Camp.

The program comprises two distinct camps: the girls' session runs from October 12 to 15, followed by the boys' camp from October 19 to 22.

Each camp will bring together 40 young athletes from 20 countries, who have been selected based on their talent, discipline and potential both on and off the court.

Designed to provide more than just basketball instruction, the camps form part of the FIBA Regional Office of Africa’s broader vision to nurture well-rounded athletes who can lead, inspire and effect positive change in their communities.

Participants, aged between 15 and 17, will engage in four days of technical and tactical sessions under the supervision of seasoned professionals.

Cheikh Sarr will once again direct the camps, with FIBA instructors Joe Touomou and Naoufal Uariachi coordinating player and coach development.

Beyond the drills and scrimmages, however, the Cairo camps will reflect FIBA's 360 Performance Program, a framework designed to nurture mindset as well as skills.

Workshops will address key non-sporting dimensions such as mental preparation, physical wellbeing, leadership, community life and personal hygiene. These are seen as essential tools to help young athletes navigate both sport and society.

The camps aim to empower participants to become ambassadors of the game and positive forces within their home countries through these sessions.

The 2025 edition will celebrate the ongoing contribution of former stars who serve as role models for the next generation.

Former players such as Isabelle Yacoubou, the EuroBasket champion from France, and Hamchétou Maïga-Ba, the 2007 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket MVP from Mali, are expected to share their insights and experiences, thereby strengthening the connection between the past and future of African basketball excellence.

Since their launch, FIBA Youth Camps Africa have had a tangible impact on the continent’s basketball ecosystem. Dozens of alumni have gone on to join national youth teams, earn scholarships abroad or progress to elite academies.

Coaches who have been trained at the camps have returned home with modern teaching methods and a better grasp of athlete management.

By expanding to North Africa this year, the programme continues to strengthen the foundations of African basketball development.
