SEREMBAN (Malaysia) - A special Basketball For Good clinic for young girls was staged during the FIBA U16 Women’s Asia Cup 2025, bringing inspiration, fun, and learning to the heart of Malaysia’s capital.
Organized in collaboration with FIBA’s Regional Office in Asia, the activity highlighted the continued commitment to creating a positive social impact and leaving a legacy at the FIBA event.
The clinic built on the success of previous Basketball For Good activations at the 2025 Continental Cups in Saudi Arabia and China, reinforcing basketball’s power to drive change across communities.
When On-Court Fun Meets Life Lessons
Designed and coordinated by FIBA Foundation Youth Leaders Bayan Salman and Aya Moamen from Bahrain, the two-hour session brought together more than 32 young girls from Kuala Lumpur. The program combined basketball drills with play-based learning from the Basketball For Good playbook, focusing on healthy food choices, breaking gender stereotypes, and protecting the planet.
The participants were joined by Malaysian National Team players, both from the men’s and women’s squads, creating a unique atmosphere where the girls could train, play, and learn directly from their role models.
A highlight of the session was the chance to play friendly games alongside the national athletes and Youth Leaders, followed by an open Q&A session. The experience provided not only basketball skills but also confidence, motivation, and lasting memories.
Youth Leaders Driving Change
For Bayan and Aya, the clinic in Malaysia marked another important milestone in their journey as changemakers, showcasing their passion for basketball and their commitment to creating social impact.
"I see my journey as just beginning. I want to keep using basketball as a tool to create positive impact in my community and beyond, whether through organizing clinics or raising awareness on important issues like gender equality, health, and climate change," expressed Bayan.
Their involvement was the result of being awarded the best Basketball For Good project pitch at the FIBA Foundation Youth Leadership Workshop 2024 in Singapore, which earned them an invitation from FIBA’s Regional Office in Asia to contribute to the U16 Women’s Asia Cup legacy.
This was not their first impact on the global stage. Building on their experience in Bahrain, where they coordinated a Basketball For Good clinic with FIBA Hall of Famers, the Youth Leaders are steadily expanding their reach, adapting their ideas to local contexts while keeping the focus on empowerment, inclusion, and education.
Their consistent involvement underlines the Foundation’s mission to support young leaders who champion social change through basketball. With every clinic delivered, they carry forward not only their personal growth but also the collective momentum of Basketball For Good as a driver of sustainable impact in Asia and beyond.
Leading the Basketball For Good clinic was one of the most inspiring coaching experiences I’ve ever had. Being a PE teacher and a technician in Bahrain, I have been through many coaching moments, but this clinic truly stood out
A Lasting Legacy
The clinic in Seremban showed once more how basketball can educate, empower, and connect. By bringing together young participants, national team players, and youth leaders, the FIBA U16 Women’s Asia Cup created an impact that will last far beyond the competition itself.
