BADALONA (Spain) – The residents of Badalona showcased once again on Saturday their city’s well-earned reputation as a cradle of Spanish and European basketball - but this time they even got an official certification of their love for the game.
It all started with a joint initiative by the Spanish ACB and the Badalona Municipality to break a Guinness World Record on the weekend that the city is hosting the Liga Endesa Supercup.
Fans started pouring in from early morning in the fanzone outside the Olimpic, the iconic venue of the 1992 Olympic Basketball Tournament, which is home to BCL and ACB club Asisa Joventut and hosted the 2026 edition of the BCL Final Four.
It took 782 participants, but when it was all said and done, Badalona had broken the Guinness World Record for ‘the largest game of knockout basketball’, surpassing the previous record, that was set by Duke University with 711 people.
The list of participants to the game included personalities such as Badalona Mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol, ACB President Antonio Martín, Asisa Joventut President Juanan Morales, Joventut legend Jordi Villacampa and Badalona native Anna Cruz, an Olympic silver medalist and two-time FIBA Women’s EuroBasket champion.
