MUNICH (Germany) - FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa and FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak hosted the management of the Albanian Basketball Federation (FSHB) in the European headquarters on Monday.
The day-long meeting focused extensively on issues related to the growth of basketball in Albania, with FSHB President Avni Ponari and Secretary General Ersi Oruci offering updates on all areas of the game and its structure in the country.
Youth basketball and grassroots projects were at the center of discussions, as Albania has been making concerted efforts in recent years to explore the talent base of the sport and grow its popularity among the younger generations.
The two sides went over the key priorities for the development of basketball in Albania over the next two four-year cycles, with Mr. Garbajosa and Mr. Novak making suggestions to help solidify and accelerate the progress that FSHB has achieved.
In the same context, FIBA Europe reiterated its full support to the FSHB’s participation in international education and formation programs, or though technical assistance with its national competitions.
The development and education of the Albanian referees was also discussed, including mentoring projects and opportunities for them to gain international exposure in FIBA’s European competitions.
