FIBA has specific rules and guidelines for accredited media to ensure smooth and organized coverage of its events. While these rules can vary slightly depending on the media category and on the tournament, the general principles for accredited media are explained in this section.
Media Rights-Holders
FIBA Media is the dedicated media service division responsible for managing all aspects of media rights, broadcasting, and live content distribution related to FIBA events. All TV and radio broadcasters interested in acquiring TV rights should contact FIBA Media at tv@fibamedia.com.
A media rights holder at FIBA is a broadcaster or media organization that has acquired exclusive rights to broadcast or distribute live footage and highlights from FIBA events. These rights are typically secured through licensing agreements, giving the rights holder privileged access to event content (live broadcasting, access to footage, dedicated broadcast facilities, etc.). All TV/Radio and websites broadcasters interested in acquiring TV rights for a 3x3 event should contact 3x3media@fiba.basketball.
Media Non-Rights Holders
A media non-rights holder at FIBA refers to a media organization or outlet that does not hold broadcasting rights to live coverage of FIBA events (generally news, digital and editorial outlets, as well as photographers). While non-rights holders cannot broadcast live footage or highlights from the event, they are permitted to engage in a variety of activities to cover and report on the competition.
Non-rights holders can interview players and coaches in mixed zones and attend press conferences to gather insights for their reporting.
Terms & Conditions of Media Accreditation
Only professional members of the media will be considered for accreditation. Media professionals must apply for accreditation well in advance of the event through FIBA’s official accreditation platform. Accreditation is typically granted based on professional status, affiliation with recognized media outlets, and the ability to provide appropriate coverage of the event. Freelance journalists and photographers may need to submit additional documentation to verify their credentials.
Submitting an online request via the FIBA Media Portal constitutes an application only and thereby does not guarantee the granting of accreditation.
Applicants will be informed of the success of their accreditation requests by the date specified for each event. Please note that every accreditation application for a FIBA event is specific to one Championship. Only applications completed and submitted online within the deadlines will be taken into consideration. The final decision to grant accreditation rests with FIBA.
