One of FIBA's missions is to promote basketball globally as an energetic, healthy, and athletic sport. We have established various structures, processes and programs to enhance integrity. These are primarily aimed to help with the prevention of doping, competition manipulation, as well as preventing harassment and abuse in the sport.
One of the main preventative measures in place is the establishment of a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) within each National Federation, leading to the availability of local integrity specialists across the global basketball community at large. These SPOCs are trained by FIBA and carry several responsibilities, including:
Raising awareness of the integrity-related regulations in place through a concrete education program
Creation of a national hotline platform for reporting any breach of integrity
Be the main point of contact with FIBA to share any national breach of integrity
Cooperate in case of a collaborative investigation with FIBA and authorities
Ensure that FIBA’s regulations on integrity are respected and implemented at a national level
Liaise with private investigative companies to perform national investigations
The SPOC should be accessible, visible, and regularly present at key internal competitions (i.e., known to the players) and National Federations must clearly communicate the SPOC's identity and role to their members.
FIBA organizes an annual in-person SPOC meeting to help foster a strong network and share experiences.
