The objectives which underpin all of FIBA in Oceania’s Basketball for Good programs are to;
Improve governance and operational effectiveness of Pacific Basketball Federations
Increase capacity of national federations to plan, run and monitor participation based basketball programs
Increase opportunities for participation in basketball programs
Increase participation in basketball activities of at-risk target groups including, but not limited to, those at risk of acquiring a noncommunicable disease and unemployed youth
Improved collaboration between Pacific Federations and Development partners
Increased participation and leadership of women and girls in basketball
Promotion of FIBA and partner’s sports capability and commitment to supporting development in the region
In supporting these programs, FIBA in Oceania are demonstrating their commitment to contributing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Basketball for Good programs each serve as a direct contribution to most, if not all, of the following SDGs;
Goal 3 – Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, at all ages
Goal 4 – Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
Goal 5 – Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
Goal 8 – Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
Goal 16 – Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development
Goal 17 – strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnerships for Sustainable Development.
