    FIBA and the NBA's Flagship Development and Community Outreach Camp

    Since 2001, Basketball Without Borders has been the flagship global development initiative of FIBA and the NBA. It was created to identify and elevate the world’s most promising young players, also promoting values, community engagement, and securing positive pathways in sport. What began as a single camp in Europe has grown into a worldwide platform connecting elite youth athletes with the highest levels of the game.

    Elite Development Outcomes

    4,939 total camp participants

    152 National Federations represented

    61% represented Youth National Teams

    34% represented Senior National Teams

    105 players were drafted into the NBA, with 112 going on to play in the league

    19 players were drafted into the WNBA, with 13 going on to play in the league

    BWB is a key marker in development. It is often where a young talent proves they can compete at the national team level.

    2001-2005: Early Phase

    2006-2010: Transitioning to a Development Camp

    2011-2015: Moving towards Standardization

    2016-2020: The Modern “Development Camp” Era

    2021-2025: Top Development Camp, Full Parity Model

    Success Stories

    Basketball Without Borders has consistently prepared young athletes to reach the highest level of basketball.

    • 6% of alumni have reached World Class Participation, which includes playing at the NBA, WNBA, World Cup, Olympics, or EuroLeague Women.

    • 42% of alumni have reached Regional Participation, which includes participating in major continental competitions such as AfroBasket, Asia Cup, AmeriCup, EuroBasket, EuroCup Women, Basketball Champions League (all regions), or the Basketball Africa League.

    More than a talent camp, Basketball Without Borders delivers a lasting social impact. It advances life-skills education, community engagement, and builds technical standards across host countries, including training for coaches and referees.
