This is the most prestigious and high-profile international men's basketball competition globally. The first-ever FIBA Basketball World Cup took place in Argentina in 1950, with the host nation prevailing in the Final against the USA. Since the first staging of the tournament in Buenos Aires, where ten teams did battle, the field has grown exponentially to a record 32 national teams for the 2019 edition.
The 2027 edition will be hosted in Qatar and feature 32 nations. It will also qualify teams directly for the LA 2028 Olympic Games or through four FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.
Millions of fans worldwide will follow the excitement of the 'Road to Qatar' as 80 national teams from all four FIBA regions compete in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers. Spanning 15 months, the Qualifiers will showcase over 2,000 players across 420 national team games, delivering intense basketball action leading up to the main event.
FIBA BASKETBALL WORLD CUP 2027 QUALIFIERS
A total of 80 national teams from the four FIBA regions of Africa (16 teams), Americas (16 teams), Asia and Oceania (16 teams) and Europe (32 teams) will play in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
Two games per window will be played on a home-and-away basis in six windows, except Africa who will play a tournament, to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027. Each window will be nine days long, beginning on Monday and finishing on the following Tuesday.
