STRATEGY
Make 3x3 the Most Thrilling Urban Sport

In 2010, FIBA set out to develop 3x3 as a stand-alone discipline. Just seven years later, in 2017, the International Olympic Committee recognized 3x3 as an official Olympic sport, with the discipline making its debut at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. With more events and increasing prize money attracting top talent from around the world, it is now considered the globe's leading urban team sport.

This strategic objective is underpinned by specific goals:

Goal 1: Drive a successful 3x3 growth model Goal 2: Strengthen the World Tour & competition network Goal 3: Develop and market dedicated 3x3 stars Goal 4: Attract top brands to boost visibility and commercial value Goal 5: Involve more National Federations in 3x3 Goal 6: Grow the fan base Goal 7: Increase users of 3x3 online tools

From packed arenas to sold-out tournaments, 3x3 basketball is capturing hearts everywhere. With over 50 events held worldwide and $5 million+ in prize money awarded in both 2023 and 2024, the World Tour is setting the stage for even bigger things ahead - especially with the LA 2028 Olympics on the horizon.

Building the Future: Youth Nations League

The FIBA 3x3 Youth Nations League is shaping tomorrow's stars today. In 2024 alone, 78 events across 13 conferences gave young athletes from 47 countries a chance to shine. Many of them went on to compete and win medals - at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

    Spotlight on 3x3 Women's Series

The FIBA 3x3 Women's Series broke records in 2024, with 50 million digital impressions and 41 million views. With 20 stops across the globe, the series is proving that women’s 3x3 basketball is fast, fierce, and here to stay. A new partnership with the All Women's Sports Network will bring even more visibility in 2025 and 2026.

    Stronger Together: National Federations

FIBA is working closely with National Federations to grow the game everywhere. In 2024, 170 federations were eligible for 3x3 basketball, up from 158 the year before. New qualifiers and regional events are making it easier for more countries to compete and develop talent.

    Going Digital

The FIBA 3x3 digital ecosystem is booming - over 440,000 new players joined in 2024 alone, pushing the total past 2 million, as more federations than ever are using FIBA's online tools and e-learning to elevate their game.
