Founded in 2016 for the purpose of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 preparation and legacy activities, FIBA has an office in Beijing and also operates from smaller hubs in Guangzhou and Shanghai. The mission is to promote basketball in China and facilitate the improvement of Chinese basketball at all levels. Key initiatives include a FIBA BG Academy to provide FIBA Coach Training; the FIBA China Youth Training program which equips youth clubs and schools with FIBA-standard curriculum, content, and competitions; while the FIBA Open 3x3 which promotes the discipline via nationwide grassroots competitions. Additionally, since 2024 the FIBA House of Basketball (China) has set up FIBA-themed basketball venues in the country to popularize FIBA events and basketball culture.
