Kick-off event for third edition of FIBA Europe's Women in Leadership program took place in Munich.

MUNICH (Germany) - A highly motivated group of women who aspire to gain leadership roles in basketball organizations and represent 31 different European countries have enrolled into the third edition of WiLEAD, that started with a workshop in Munich, on January 23-24.

The 38 participants include 28 women who were nominated by National Basketball Federations and seven from various European clubs. They are all highly accomplished in their respective roles, including former and active players, executives, or leaders in basketball organizations such as Kati Packalen, Secretary General at Basketball Finland, or Belen Ros Lopez, FIBA SPOC (Single Point of Contact on Integrity), HR and Compliance at the Spanish Basketball Federation.

The content of the two-day workshop in Munich was structured around Leadership and Development themes and was conducted by FIBA Europe, in collaboration with external consultants Lisa Clancy and Sarah O’Shea.

The next steps of WiLEAD 3.0 include five online webinars until June 2025, when an in-person event and the graduation ceremony will take place during the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025, in Athens.

WiLEAD has evolved into a permanent fixture in the FIBA Europe calendar and consequently runs every other year, always in alignment with the FIBA Women's EuroBasket, through 2029.

Women in Basketball is one of FIBA's strategic priorities and WiLEAD is the important global development program the International Federation has created in order to increase gender diversity in all governing bodies, at both the FIBA and National Federation levels.

The program addresses the need for higher female representation in basketball decision-making and operational bodies.

The objective of the program is to provide a learning and personal development program for women who are already in basketball structures, within the National Federations and Clubs, to gain the necessary knowledge, tools, and experience to advance in their future careers.
