    • From 1976 and until his death, he ran the 'Pete Newell's Big Man Camp', a prestigious annual camp for centers and forwards where he instructed some of basketball's greatest stars, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton, Hakeem Olajuwon and Shaquille O'Neal In 1987, the playing surface at Harmon Gym (currently Haas Pavilion), the home of the University of California at Berkeley's basketball and volleyball teams was renamed 'Pete Newell Court' in his honour

    • Since 2000, the National Association of Basketball Coaches annually presents the Pete Newell Big Man Award to the top frontcourt player in the U.S.A.
