International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF)

    INTERNATIONAL WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL FEDERATION (IWBF)

The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) serves as the global governing body for wheelchair basketball, dedicated to fostering its growth and development worldwide. As a volunteer led non-profit organization, the IWBF is committed to providing opportunities for individuals with lower limb disabilities to actively engage in the sport of basketball.

Wheelchair basketball is one of the most popular and widely recognized Paralympic sports. Its fast-paced nature, dynamic gameplay, and the skill level of players make it a thrilling spectator sport. Additionally, wheelchair basketball has a strong global following and is played in numerous countries around the world.

With 111 National Organisations for Wheelchair Basketball (NOWBs) spread across four zones – Asia Oceania, Africa, Europe, and the Americas – the IWBF leads and governs these members with the aim of promoting and facilitating the game on both national and international scales. Its headquarters are located with FIBA at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball.

The IWBF's responsibilities include organizing and overseeing international competitions, establishing and maintaining the rules of the game, and setting standards for equipment and practice. Furthermore, the federation actively champions the significance and benefits of wheelchair basketball as a tool to break down barriers and promote inclusivity within society.
